Good preparation does not mean you need to become a solar expert. It means asking the right questions and getting the basics sorted.

Start with your roof, not the panels

Most people focus on panel brands and inverter specs first. Those matter, but your roof is the foundation of the whole system. If the roof is near the end of its life, or there are cracked tiles, rust, sagging sections or known leaks, sort that out before solar goes on.

For the property owner, preparation here is mostly about providing accurate information quickly. That may include your NMI, electricity retailer details, phase supply information or access to previous electrical records if they exist. Delays often happen because a detail is missing or a site condition does not match the original application.

If you are in a strata property, duplex, commercial tenancy or newer estate with specific building requirements, raise that early. Some sites have extra layers of approval, and it is better to know that before the install date is booked.

Get the site ready for the installers
